Six Week Caning Course
Learn the Art of Traditional Caning 🪑
Transform a much loved piece of furniture back to life and discover the traditional craft of caning in this hands on bring your own project course.
Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to build on existing skills, this friendly and practical course will teach you everything you need to get started. You’ll have the opportunity to work on your own piece of furniture, such as a dining chair seat or stool, while learning traditional caning techniques in a supportive setting.
Over six Saturday morning classes, you’ll learn the skills, techniques and confidence to continue restoring and creating beautiful pieces at home.
What you’ll learn:
Traditional caning techniques and skills
How to prepare and work with cane
How to approach your own furniture restoration project
Practical tips and techniques you can continue using at home
Your project:
You should have enough time to complete a small project, such as a chair seat or stool. Larger projects may be started during the course and completed at home. Small projects can be stored with us for the duration of the course.
Course dates:
Six Saturday mornings, beginning 23 January 2027, with the final class on 6 March 2027. There will be a half-term break on 13 February.
Times:
First two classes: 9.30am–1.30pm
Remaining four classes: 10.00am–1.00pm
Fees: The £475 fees includes:
Six practical classes
Teaching and guidance throughout
Enough cane for a small seat
Use of tools
Storage of your project
Refreshments
Larger projects may be possible (within reason), with additional cane charged according to your project.
Once you’ve booked, we’ll be in touch to discuss your piece and make sure it’s suitable for the course.

Our courses are run based on a minimum number of attendees, on the rare chance we do not gain enough people we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule and will notify you as soon as we possibly can. In the case that the course is cancelled by Shoreditch Design Rooms you will be refunded in full.
